Farm Happenings (#9 SUMMER DELIVERY out of 20)

Posted on July 22nd, 2021 by Diane Riehm

Have you noticed there are more choices on your customization page this time of year?

Example: Sweet corn was not an option this past week in my selections when it was time to customize.

BUT I was able hit the swap arrows and see that sweet corn was available.

Without hesitation I acted quickly and got sweet corn instead.

CHECK IT OUT!

Have fun with customization and see what new options pop up!

(however, this week sweet corn will not be there because we are in-between plantings and there is a 7-10 day gap).

Another possible option you can snag while customizing are Cherry Tomatoes.

They are rich in lycopene, which is great at fighting free radicals that cause disease.

Lycopene can also limit UV damage to your skin from sun exposure and promote better heart health.

Eat them as an everyday snack!

Remember all the RAIN we got last Saturday?

As you can see, our driveway into the field was flooded with 3.8 inches of rain. We had to dig some more trenches and pump out a few areas again from the field.

Thank goodness for the drainage tile!

However, the water started to reverse from here and went into the other end of the field temporarily.

Although we were fearful we were fighting an endless battle, success came and we were left with no more water over the plants.

Our final step was spraying hydrogen peroxide on the entire field for several days to heal the wounded plants

Linda Brown, a Weekly Veggie Box member from Bowling Green, has nothing but great things to say about her experience with our farm.

“We appreciate everyone who works behind the scenes to grow, pick, and pack our veggies. John, Paul, and Carter do a great job at the market. We look forward to seeing them each Wednesday, and of course, to getting such good veggies and fruit from the veggie bags. Thank you all!”

Country-fried steak is made with cube steaks, a tenderized cut of meat that makes a great weeknight dinner entrée.

Coated each steak in a crushed saltine cracker or flour mixture, and then fried until golden brown. Bake in oven with gravy over top for 30 minutes at 275 degrees.

Cube steak is a cut of beef, usually top round or top sirloin, tenderized and flattened by pounding with a meat tenderizer at the butcher.

The name refers to the shape of the indentations left by that process.

This is the most common cut of meat used for the American dish chicken fried steak.

SNAG SOME from your extras page.
