Farm Happening (4th DELIVERY SUMMER)

Posted on June 17th, 2021 by Diane Riehm

Rain, rain go away.

Crazy how fast the rain came last week!

Listen as Farmer Phil explains the process of pumping out 4-5 inches of rain from our vegetable field into the ditch.

Always saving the day!

Unfortunately, the spinach crop did not survive well enough to harvest. However, Farmer Phil's efforts saved our field of Swiss Chard.

Have you ever eaten this veggie?

Not as tender as spinach but not as tough as kale. Just perfect!

But like spinach, you can easily sauté it in some olive oil in just a few minutes.

Teamwork is necessary on most of what we do here at RPFarm.

Any guesses as to what John and Phil are doing in this picture below?

Cutting the new corn maze design for this fall of course!

Stay tuned to see the finished design featured at this Fall's BARNYARD FUN WEEKENDS September 25-October 31.

Farmer Phil and the Riehm Team are always looking for ways to help you along the way with your farm experience!

We know that you definitely don't want to miss customization deadlines!

We want to share with you when the customization window usually opens below. Farmer Phil says it's depending on unpredictable farm weather and duties that need attended to though.

  • Pick up day Monday/Tuesday- Expect an email sometime Thursday
  • Pick up day Wednesday- Enjoy a cup of coffee Friday afternoon while perusing your emails
  • Pick up day Thursday- Set your customized veggies before you leave the house Saturday afternoon
  • Pick up day Friday/Saturday- Relax and customize on Sunday afternoon

Don't want to search for your customization "email"?

Swapping veggies and adding extras are simple steps once the customization window opens.

Happy shopping!

The Harvie Swap Page gives you full transparency to see exactly what you are paying for from RPFarm.

It's imperative that you notice a couple of things.

When you take items out of your "mini or base veggie share" you still have the opportunity to add items back into your box at "no charge".

It is crucial that you look right under your selected items. A box will pop-up for you if/when there is  an options to add more veggies. (it will appear right "before" your extras)

THE BOX LOOKS LIKE THIS:

Sometimes for as-little-as 50 cents you can get an item that would cost you "full" price on the extra list. This ensures that you do not leave money in your cart.

*There is NOT a charge for simply swapping, but charges WILL ACCRUE if you choose a higher dollar value when you swap.

Remember a Local Granola maker Neat Stuff that we previously featured as an extra in our Weekly Bags in 2019?

Would you be interested in grabbing this 14 oz bag from the extra list to your weekly veggie bag to support a long-time CSA member?

Kadie started creating granola in 2017 and offered it to family, friends and coworkers. She absolutely loves when strangers message her about how much they love her granola.
She uses natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup instead of sugar and organic ingredients whenever possible as well as gluten-free and sprouted oats. Her favorite cereal for breakfast most mornings is to add hemp seeds and almond milk to the cinnayum flavor and eat it as.

Two options for your Veggie Box:

  • Cinnayum- Old fashioned rolled oats, almonds, organic honey/pumpkin seeds/sunflower seeds/coconut oil/egg white, unsweetened coconut flakes, cinnamon & salt.
  • Chocolicious- Old fashioned rolled oats, almonds, organic honey/coconut oil, unsweetened coconut flakes, cocoa powder, vanilla & salt.

Thank You! Thank You!

Several of the weekly veggie bag donations from you guys are going to struggling people with a lack of immediate resources.

Many people have found themselves in need of food due to unforeseen circumstances like the loss of a job, unexpected medical expenses, costly car repairs, or a delay in social services.

Since this affects many members of our community, different people are selected each time through the Brown Bag Project.

Thank you for your help in keeping this project successful!

[FOR THOSE WHO "ADDED-ON" TO YOUR SHARES "WHEN YOU SIGNED UP"]

June 21-26:

FULL SEASON FRUIT FORECAST PREDICTION -
If you chose more than one fruit at sign-up, we try our hardest to give you two different fruits. It is hard to predict from the orchard right now because the rains has split the cherries. So possibly cherries, and maybe some of our strawberries. Sorry we can't take requests.

"WHOLE" CHICKEN-OF-THE-MONTH SHARES -
The finest whole chicken raised by the Anderson family.

BREAD SHARES - Rosemary Boule'. Wheat flour, rye, eight grains, rosemary, olive oil. Perfect for a bowl of pasta.
