Farm Happening (13th DELIVERY SUMMER)

Posted on August 26th, 2019 by Diane Riehm

The carrot crop is being harvested by the wagon loads right now!!

We planted purple, yellow, orange, and white carrots.

This makes it easy to get your 5-colors-a-day into your diet.

Did you know the carrots original color is white?

The Dutch began adding beta carotene to grow "orange" carrots in the 17th century to honor their national color.

Thanks goes out to Mike Sooy of Old Fort Church for capturing a picture of this year's corn maze with his drone.

If you remember watching Scooby Doo as a child,

Then you'll know Shaggy and the Mystery Van await in every scene.

Discover the maze or enjoy many more adventures at Riehm's Barnyard Fun this season.

Available on weekends Starting September 28th.

The ever so popular Katlettes Tops are in this week's Veggie Bag.

They are a cross between Kale and Brussels sprouts.

Kalettes have been developed entirely through natural processes and is therefore a non- GMO vegetable. The breeders of Kalettes do not produce any GMO varieties.

How do you to eat Kalette Tops?

Combine Kalettes, oil, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Spread in an even layer on a large, rimmed baking sheet. Roast in the lower third of the oven until just tender and browned in spots, about 10 minutes.

"Healthy soil makes healthier veggies, which makes a healthier you." - Farmer, Phil Riehm.

[RPFarm CSA COMMUNITY]

We are seeing and hearing some amazing things with this year's Farm Flowers on the "extras" list.

  * The Jun family added farm flowers to their Weekly Veggie Share. Look at the picture above and see how creative she was. They look so pretty in the pitcher rather than a vase.

*  One gentleman, sent his wife to get the Weekly Veggie Bag while he was out of town and surprised her with Farm Flowers.

*  A lady's husband, ended up in the hospital and expressed how convenient it was to order the Farm Flowers to take with her for a visit.

FOR THOSE WHO "ADDED-ON" TO YOUR SHARES "WHEN YOU SIGNED UP",
