Farm Happenings for August 23, 2022

Posted on August 20th, 2022 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Happy Saturday, everyone!

So sorry for another late customization email - yeesh. I postponed it on Thursday, which is never a good idea - my brain forgets all about it! I hope this is enough time for everyone.

We have some potatoes again this year, from Earl at Silver Birch Farm. The first batch (this week's) are a medium-sized white potato variety called Jennifer. Next week, we'll have some reds from Earl, as well as a round of rainbow carrots and garlic! I am going to put a pound of garlic in any of the shares that have indicated they like and want garlic, so the share value will be set at $38 that week. If you have set your preferences to indicate that you do not want garlic, however, you won't be forced to take it! Or email me if you want to make sure you don't get garlic.

We also have smaller amounts of eggplant and tomatoes - we won't have a ton of hot crops without a heated greenhouse, but hopefully everyone is able to grab some before the season is out (we've been trying to sneak tomatoes into everyone's shares the last couple weeks). Email me if you haven't gotten any and would like some! I will do my best to include. Still some new things to come yet, like dill, winter squash, storage onions and carrots, and radicchio. We are also a little low on the lettuce mix because it just doesn't thrive in this heat. If you're a lettuce fan, the head lettuces are actually better because they are heat-tolerant varieties so they maintain flavour and texture better than the mix lettuce types that we grow.

I wanted to give folks an update on # of weeks remaining in the season! After this week's deliveries (August 23rd), we will have 7 weeks left for weekly folks, and 4 for bi-weekly. If you have skipped any weeks so far this season, or put any on hold, good to check your Harvie account to reschedule these weeks. Here is a quick help doc blurb on that:

How to reschedule past held shares:

To reschedule a past held share

  1. Login to your account at www.harvie.farm/login
  2. Go to the “Deliveries” tab
  3. If you have past held shares, those shares will show up on the top of the page with the option to “Remove On Hold”. You will be prompted to choose a new date. The system will default to the next available date. Please note that this option is not available if your farm is using Skip mode.

NOTE: Past held shares will not appear if they are more than 3 months back nor will not appear if there are no valid upcoming delivery dates for them. ie. out of season. Contact support@harvie.farm if you have questions.

That's it for now, everyone. Again, my apologies for this late email - please do let me know any time if you have questions or concerns. Will see you all Tuesday!!
