A Long Weekend of Changes at the Farm!

Posted on July 31st, 2021 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Hello everyone!

I hope you're all managing to enjoy your long weekends amidst the smoke that suddenly rolled in. I'll be taking little breaks from being outside for sure today.

It is a bit quieter this weekend here on the farm! Two of our awesome farm staff, Maria and Cailin, worked their last day yesterday and carried on North in their camper van today. It was quite difficult to see them go - we've had a super great team this year that made getting all your veggies planted, weeded, and washed both efficient and fun. They are great workers and people, and I am really sad to see them go. The tough part of seasonal teams. So we spent our last morning together at the Gecko Tree.

This week's veggies are a lot of the same, as this is the time of year when just about everything is ready! Still waiting on some crops like leeks and winter squash but even those should be ready in a few weeks.

We are planning to get both garlic and potatoes from 2 different farms on West Fraser Rd: Buck Ridge Ranch and Silver Birch Farm. We will include garlic a couple of times in the remaining boxes, and will also offer it for bulk sales on the extras page. Will let you know when we've got those ready!

The blueberries arrived yesterday and they are AMAZING. Sometimes, they can be a bit tart depending on the maturity when picked but these ones are perfect. Sweet and huge. We do have some extra so if you wanted more, they will still be on the extras page for the August 3rd deliveries, and we will also send them out to any of you who already pre-ordered them in the last week. I usually freeze about 40lbs because they are so easy: no need to put on a cookie sheet or anything, I just bag them and freeze them.

Thanks, everyone. Look forward to seeing you Tuesday afternoon! Shares will be ready for pick-up at Mint & Lime by 12:30 and at the evening farmers' market by 2pm. Thank you for your support!

Your Farmer,

Brianna
