Farm Happenings for September 8, 2020

Posted on September 5th, 2020 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Happy September, everyone! Been nice to get a few last hits of summer weather this past week, with more to come according to the forecast. This is the fall transition time, when daytime temps can feel like July or August, but nighttime temps are 10C or less. We've taken any shade cloth off of the greenhouse and crops, as we need all the hours of direct sunlight that we can get to finish everything off.

LAST WEEK OF SUMMER SHARES: This is the 2nd to last week of the summer CSA program! The week of September 14th will be the last. I want to make sure I say a HUGE thanks to all of you for investing in it this year. It is a big commitment for you, and I appreciate CSA customers so much for that commitment. You go out of your way to purchase local and that's a big deal. Thank you!

With one more week to go after September 8th, I wanted to make sure folks remember to schedule any shares they have on HOLD before the season is over. These would be weeks that you put a hold on your share if you weren't able to pick up that week. But if it's a week that was beyond the first 5 you already paid for in the beginning of the season, you will not have been charged for it anyway, so you don't have to reschedule it if you don't want to. Here is more info on rescheduling holds. Also, be sure to use up any credits on your accounts! I have added all credits I had notes for, but please do let me know if you missed something in a share and I will add a credit!

BREAD PURCHASES: sadly, we are unable to get Annette's baking for one more round this season: she has other commitments to attend to between now and September 15th. For those of you who paid for a bread order on August 11th, I will have to credit your accounts for that value, but please do let me know if that doesn't work for you! The credit will be there by today.

FALL CSA PROGRAM: If you also purchased a fall share, these will start the week of September 21st, so keep an eye out for the launch email!

We have a different variety of local apples from Mackin Creek Orchard this week, as well as some fall crops like leeks, more potatoes, bulk beets, and winter squash. Thanks again, everyone. Catch you next Tuesday!
