Week 3 of Your CSA Shares

Posted on June 13th, 2020 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Hope you're all having good weekends out there! I mentioned something last week about sending these emails before the weekend....which clearly didn't happen! Sorry for another weekend customization email, folks! We've been really slammed, but things are starting to even out a bit.

On a related note, we are looking to hire a 3rd FT farm hand! If you know of anyone who might be interested, please feel free to share the posting! Only requirement, apart from the skills & abilities, is that they are 30 or under. But it is FT, Mon-Fri.

I imagine everyone is eating more salads than they ever have in their life! We are still working through the greens, but we have some different varieties popping up. This week, we have some romaine lettuce heads ready, but there are only about 20. So we will have to stagger them amongst CSA members as new beds mature. We grow romaine all season though, so there will be lots more! We've also got some lovely mini bibb lettuce heads for the boxes this week. They are grown and harvested small because it makes them super tender and sweet. There is more info on the exact varieties we have here. So members will get one of the 2 lettuce types this week! Or you can swap for the regular Lettuce Lover mix we do. We've also got more Hakurei turnips this week, since they have a limited season. I also suggest people try sauteeing the greens from these, if you haven't already! They are super juicy and delish. I throw them in chopped at the end, just to wilt.

We will have other regulars like swiss chard, kale, and carrots in the next couple weeks. We're also starting up our microgreen production again. Varieties like broccoli, radish, red cabbage, and kohlrabi micros will be available soon.

FOR TUESDAY FARMERS' MARKET PICK-UPS: The market starts this week! Tuesday, June 16th. So if you are a market pick-up that has been getting your box from Mint & Lime, you can now get yours at the farmers' market from 3-7pm, next to Kiwanis Park.

Thanks for the boxes! We've got most back and we'll keep taking them, so feel free to leave them with Mint & Lime, at the Tuesday or Friday farmers' markets, or outside your door if you're a home delivery.

Thanks again for your patience and support as we get settled into the season, everyone. Hope you like the veggies!
