Farm Happenings for November 20, 2022

Here we go winter! As you have likely also noticed, the temps have dropped. We're in the lows between 25 to 27 over night out here, but are enjoying some delightful highs in the mid 50s. I personally love this kind of weather. We keep all the veggies going with various forms of covers and mulches. Right now, we've got the majority covered in either row cover (a light weight fabric) or greenhouse plastic with short hoops. We built some small low tunnels this spring for our hot crops due to very low June over night temps (was still 40 to 45 degrees!) and now they're finding another use covering carrots, raddichios, and various greens.

It takes more work but produce this time of year is some of my favorite. As it gets cold, most vegetables tend to store extra sugars as a sort of anti-freeze. It makes for some truly delicious eating!
