Farm Happenings for October 30, 2022

Posted on October 29th, 2022 by Grayson Crane

We've made it to the end of the CSA season! Always feels a little bittersweet to me. Happy to be entering a time of slower growth and less doing. But also sad to see the regular flow of food and connection points with you folks disappear for a bit.

I'll have a bigger end of CSA email to come--so stay tuned :)

The past week we bumped up our teenage laying hens into the big tomato tunnel where they're making great strides in taking down tomatoes. I just about hardly see them when I go in and out to feed or water, which feels like a sign they are really enjoying themselves in there. We also added on another 150 laying hens who are in another tunnel, staying warm and figuring out the ropes. Overall, we're about doubling our egg production into 2023. A big leap forward! We've been successful with a few grants to expand our pasture based system which made expanding this winter more viable. Our CSA boxes will certainly have eggs to add-on for the future, and we're also excited about offering eggs back to local distributors we had to cut due to inflation costs.

Anywho--more to come from me. But mostly THANK YOU! All of us at the farm thoroughly enjoy putting together the weekly box, and have enjoyed the moments where we can connect and meet some of you. The hope of an on-farm event got lost in what became a fall of many construction projects, but I'll be doing a little video and we'll have the same offer in the spring when things are a little more chill and full of lambs :)
