Farm Happenings for June 19, 2022

Posted on June 11th, 2022 by Grayson Crane

Greeting folks,

On to week 2! The cold and wet weather continues down here in Eatonville. We're hopeful it'll start to dry out, and maybe we'll see the sun soon?, but we've been taking some steps to make sure that we get nice hot crops and other goodies we've been planning for all winter long. Last week, this took the form of us setting up a simple and satisfying mini caterpillar tunnel over our field tomatoes. Not only are field tomatoes a standby CSA item, we're also growing a fair amount for local food banks here in Pierce County this year. After weeks of work getting them ready, losing them in lows of 46 to 43 degrees (ugh) in one night when we could cover them wasn't an option! The good news is we have lots of tomatoes safely tucked away in our high tunnels. Fear not.

As a reminder, either myself or someone from the farm will be available at CSA pick up sites this week. After that, most of you will be flying solo!

See you at pick up,

Grayson
