Farm Happenings for October 5, 2021

Posted on September 28th, 2021 by Grayson Crane

Hi there CSA Members,

Hope everyone is doing well as fall continues to roll in. If you haven't found it in your inbox yet, a reminder to fill out our 2021 CSA survey. When you complete the survey, you get a discount for next year's box!

Now that we've removed most of what remains in the field, our attention is shifting towards flipping high tunnels, cleaning out sheep shelters, and preparing crops, animals, and structures for more rain and eventually winter. Our big compost pile is beginning to fill up again and we're looking forward to sheep shearing and fleece cleaning towards the middle of the month. One of the advantages to having sheep here, is that they provide great built in farm fertility for our crops. Every fall we clean out their shade structures and compost old bedding and other materials to apply in the late spring. We also spread a good chunk of what we don't use in the fall before the heavy rains wash out nutrients that our cover crops can hold in.

Looking forward to seeing you during the week,

Grayson
