Farm Happenings for the week of September 13, 2022 - the delivery

Posted on September 10th, 2022 by Mike Milsom

"Your destination is on your left"

She turned and smiled at me and with all the power of an attractive woman who is well situated she asked in the sweetest way possible, "Michael will you deliver your vegetables to me?"

And just like that I entered the world of logistics.

Back then it was simpler. I would bring my vegetables from Greta's field to my home on Paul Anka. Carry them all downstairs to the jurry rigged wash station. Prep, bunch and pack and then carry them all back to the caravan and make my way around to the 20 some customers that were all marked in my MapArt book. Sometimes you got what Mike said was in the box...and sometimes you got something else.

Fast forward to current day. We are all Hollywood now. With our fancy pants websites with customized orders going out with labels via delivery routes optimized by phone aps.  Quite the evolution to be sure. Does it make sense? Not according to my accountant but my marketing folk love it! Delivery does remain popular and the truth be told, if it wasn't for you folks we wouldn't still be here.

Thank you so much for your patience as we have gone through some intense growing pains. I think we have made every mistake possible throughout the learning curve but the reward is the satisfying feeling of placing a bag of freshly harvested on your doorstep. That in itself, is worth the effort.

This week you will see that we have tomatoes listed. Very pleased and proud of this. They are truly lovely and all the extra effort that went into sorting and helping them ripen in the trailer is starting to pay off. Our potatoes look great and the leeks and onions which are abundant will all make for some pretty special meals.

Enjoy :-)
