Welcome to Meadow Wood Farm

Posted on March 8th, 2021 by Jessica Linton

Welcome to membership in Meadow Wood Farm! We are excited to have you join us. You are a valuable, integral part of our community. Meadow Wood Farm is built on a foundation of commitment – to the land, to our animals, and to each other. That commitment is reflected in everything we do, including signing up new members. We believe that directly connecting our farmers to the community benefits both the families that produce our food and the families that eat our food.

Here at Meadow Wood Farm, we want to bring you the most amazing variety and abundance of food possible so we have partnered with other farms and producers that are our neighbors here in the Shenandoah Valley. We deeply know and trust these farmers, bakers, coffee makers, cheesemakers, and syrup brewers and believe their food is of the best quality and nutritional density.

This year we have transitioned Meadow Wood Farm solely to home delivery. We believe this offers more convenience for our members and makes packing orders easier on our side. Delivery will be every other Friday after 5pm. Your box will be left on your door stop and a confirmation text will be sent to you once it has arrived. If you notice anything missing or less than satisfactory in your order please immediately call Jessie Linton as she will still be in the area and will try to remedy the situation. Credits and refunds on missing or unsatisfactory goods are offered at our discretion but we will always work with you to try and find the best solution. Since we are trying to be as environmentally conscious as possible please fold your delivery boxes and reusable packaging material and place it on your porch before each delivery. We do our best to find the most reusable and recyclable options but the system only works if you all participate.

When you sign up for membership at Meadow Wood Farm you are committing to a full season of deliveries (or 13 deliveries) every two weeks from May 14 to November 5. While many CSAs require full payment up front, we do not want one lump sum payment to be prohibitive to a family who wants access to fresh food. You will pay for each delivery on delivery, not ahead of time, to allow you to spread out the cost. This also allows you to customize your delivery every 2 weeks so it only includes what you are interested in eating.

You also get access to bulk pricing opportunities when you commit to being a member at Meadow Wood Farm.  We consistently hear from members that they don’t want more produce. Most members can’t use any more than we already distribute in each box. But if you are interested in bulk product for canning or freezing we offer discount rates. Beginning in August, we will announce bulk buying opportunities for our members – extra tomatoes, kale, squash, and more available for bulk purchase at our wholesale rates, which change each year and throughout the season. Availability and current discount pricing will be announced in these farm happenings.

Throughout the season our members will be invited out to our farm and our partner farms for events such as U-pic days, bread days, bouquet making classes, duck processing days, a tomato festival and many more.  As a member, you become both part of our business as well as our extended family. As such, we ask of you the same respect we ask of one another. When visiting the farms, please treat our property as you would your own home. Mind your feet and all signage that alerts you to restricted areas. Our baby plants are delicate, and we need to make sure they don’t get stomped on.

Because of the delicate nature of our work and other natural unpredictable risks of farm life, we ask that you please stay by the side of your children as they explore the farm. We do our best to carefully maintain and properly account for any potential hazards, but animals and nature don’t always follow the rules, so we need you to. Along those same lines, we also ask that you refrain from bringing pets onto the property other than disability assistance animals. In general, we just ask that you are mindful of your actions so that we can continue to open up our farms to you and your family.

If you are not sure about committing to a full membership but still want to benefit from the farm bounty, subscribe to our farm stand feature. Think of the Farm Stand as your online farmer’s market. You can create a completely custom box with as many or as few vegetables and extras as you like for a single delivery. But you will not have access to the same bundle prices that our box customers have access to. That is because our box customers are committing at the beginning season allowing us to plan and prepare while our Farm Stand customers are giving us only a couple days notices. You also might not have access to the vegetables, fruits, and cheeses we produce in a more limited supply because they will be first meted out to our box customers. Our Farm Stand gives you complete customization on selection and delivery date but our Boxes give you the best value.

Like any strong community, we need good communication. Meadow Wood Farm will post a new farm happening every delivery week on our Harvie website. This update will contain new varieties that will be available, farm event information, and recipes. We don’t want you to miss out – please make sure our emails aren’t going into your spam folder. Essential information about cancellations, delays, or problems will be delivered via email or text.
