Farm Happenings for October 20, 2022

Posted on October 15th, 2022 by Jessica Linton

Well folks! We have reached the end of the CSA season. We got our first fall frost this weekend so all our produce and flowers are done for the year. We were madly harvesting in the days leading up to the frost so we have an abundance of veggies available to you guys! Wherever I can I am offering a bulk option so you can try your hand at canning, freezing, or just storage in your pantry so you can keep eating locally grown veg into the winter! Things like butternut squash, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and onions will last for months in your pantry while these late season tomatoes, peppers, apples, and ginger are perfect candidates for canning and fermenting. If you are feeling especially adventurous, I would recommend trying honey fermented ginger. All you have to do is peel and chop fresh ginger, put in a pint jar, and fill with honey. Leave about 2 inches at the top and then leave to ferment for minimum a week. It is sweet and spicy deliciousness. I'd also suggest ordering meat to fill your freezers if you have become fans of our chorizo or maybe the ground lamb! The ground sausages are perfect for weeknight dinners, quick and easy.

More than anything, I want to thank all of you for supporting us this season and being a part of our CSA. I think this connection between families and farms is so important and I love being a part of your lives. I know how hectic every one's lives are and that you guys take the time to peruse our listings and source your food from our family farms means so much! Thank you so much for another incredible season.
