First frost 2022

Posted on October 3rd, 2022 by Timothy Lyon

The first frost has come and gone. With it, some plants are now saying goodbye for the season, and fulfilling their post-fruiting role of providing organic matter for the soil and all who dwell there. We feel somewhat upset with these losses, but also release as we are freed from tending to move forward into winter preparations and harvesting cold-hardy crops.

Now that some tender crops have stopped fruiting, we are glad to see the daikon radishes, giant kohlrabi, and Red Russian kale and autumn potatoes come into season. Get out your recipe books and do your google searches to discover some new culinary worlds to celebrate the seasonal harvest.
