Treat, not trick! Oct 31st 2019

Posted on October 27th, 2019 by Timothy Lyon

It's here, the final main season CSA share, and we hope you perceive it as treat, not trick!

Thanks for eating along with us all these months and years (for those long-term members).

Eating from Kingston's urban farm has opened many of your mouths to the taste of delicious

local vegetables, two of which clearly demonstrate the flavour gap between mass-produced

supermarket fare and small-scale locally grown: carrots and potatoes. We're glad you noticed.

We grow so you can eat the freshest, tastiest, most full-flavoursome and nutrient dense food, on

a regular basis!

Now our offerings don't get less regular, but the frequency changes to monthly for

Winter shares starting Nov 14th. If you've had one previous years you know the drill.

If not, either go into your account and ensure Auto-renew is on (and ideally drop us a line

so we know you want one), or add a Winter share to your orders in Harvie. UPDATE: we've

put a lot more root veggies into storage, rather than freezing as much this year. We hope you

like the change. If you're not getting a Winter share, please tell us why, so the farm can set intentions

to evolve to meet your eating needs and deisres.

Some of the highlights for us this year were seeing sweet tomatoes still emerging from the

high tunnels in October, well after first frost. Having inmates from Collins Bay come out and

work along with us on the farm. Tasting fresh kohlrabi in the field. Having individuals experiencing

depression and other challenges work with us and experience a positive improvement from

making regular connection with the earth. Chatting with each of you at share pickup. Completing

another season of business operated almost wholly by bicycle. Removing single-use plastic from

our purchase list, and using scant disposable plastic on the farm (even at market).

Speaking of resusable packaging, please return  Main Street Urban Farm packaging this week (either at your

pickup point, or to our booth at the MCFM on Sunday, or front door at 126 York St). Pints, quarts, elastics,

bags, Rubbermaid bins, plastic or cloth grocery bags. Of those last three, now's a great time to gift our farm

with any extra Rubbermaid bins, and cloth or plastic grocery bags you have at home ready for our use

next delivery - Nov 14th Winter shares.
