Beans, Bags and Brunch & July 1st notes

Posted on June 27th, 2021 by Timothy Lyon

July 1st is a public holiday. All Thursday pickups will be available Weds June 30th at the Barn 4-6pm, and deliveries made Weds June 30th. There will be no Thursday pickup/deliveries. Sunday pickups remain the same.

Beans seeded early April got hit by a wicked frost, knocking us back 1 succession planting. An April 28th reseed and ample watering has the second batch flowering and on the verge of fruiting. Our third planting is 3 inches off the ground, and readying for harvest once the second loses steam. That's been the news from the field.

Bags at the pack-house, a.k.a. the Barn, play a big role in how we get your food to you. In our quest to eliminate single-use plastic and reduce our overall use of plastic and paper we also use Rubbermaid bins. To help us do so, we ask those of you getting deliveries to supply 2-3 reusable shopping bags for us to pack your veggies into. We keep some on hand for anyone who hasn't supplied us yet, but if you're able please do so. You may also return paper and other bags, and any and all containers, mason jars, elastics and so on for reuse.

Brunch without lifting a finger to cook or do dishes? At Memorial Centre Farmers' Market we serve our famous okonomiyaki - Japanese savoury pancakes/pizza ready to eat on real china. It's made with all the veggies you know and love getting in your shares. We can also make it to go or heat up later (bring a container if you can!). A comfort food farmer Tim fell in love with in Japan, okonomiyaki is a large snack or a small meal. It comes topped with our tomato sauce, vegan mayo, and (optional) sriracha made with our peppers. Order online for pickup, curbside or delivery, or pop by and place your order at our booth.
