Boxes & Bags Farm Happening June 20, 2019

Posted on June 17th, 2019 by Timothy Lyon

Dear members, we're grateful you've chosen to get some of your veggies direct from the farmer. It's a bit like speed dating: you look at our farm profile & produce list and decide to give it a go, we take whomever signs up. Now the season is in swing and we're into the we go halfway, you come halfway part of the farmer-eater relationship. Let's talk about that 50/50 split in box&bag terms.

As we mentioned, this year - our 10th - we're drastically reducing all plastics, aiming to reduce single-use ones to 0%. In the CSA we're not going to bag up. Here's how it works:

When you come to pickup, bring reusable bags, containers and so on. And, return any multi-use containers you've borrowed from us. To save you time, we'll still portion items into quarts, pints and so on. Please transfer produce to your containers, leaving ours behind. If you get home/bicycle delivery, please make it your habit to leave out reusable packaging for us. Ideally, put it all in a delivery bag with each item labelled with your name and leave it out for us to collect & use next delivery. We'll fill containers/bags which you've washed and returned. Please have at least 2 sets on hand so we're never short.

We have a local partner now with reusable packaging for sale - which eliminates the packaging store-bought reusable bags come in!! Ask for details.

Box Cleaning

We use the same (Rubbermaid) bin for your share each time, replacing only the sticker. That means we'll rely on whatever packaging you leave in it to pack your share. And, when you pick up your share, you'll find a cloth and spray bottle of vinegar (GF). If you find your bin is getting a bit dirty, please give it a wipe down so we can pack your veggies into a clean bin.
