Fall and Winter Bed Prep

Posted on October 8th, 2022 by Brittany Reardon

We're really excited because we're picking up two super exciting things this week....a brand-new hoophouse !!, and a row mulcher!!

The hoophouse we were able to fund partially with an EQIP grant from the NRCS, and it will allow us to significantly expand our current winter production capacity. We're hoping to get it up before snow flies for some early spring greens.

The mulcher will allow us to start making beds this fall much faster than we've ever done it before, and hopefully get the chance to get ahead for the spring. We'll be able to cover beds with leaves and get the pathways mulched with wood chips.

Some important updates/announcements...

SHARE DATES! We've gotten some questions about share dates. The fall share runs until the week before Thanksgiving (week of 11/14). The week of Thanksgiving we'll be taking off from CSA, but we will start up our winter share the following week, of 11/28. Our winter share is biweekly and will run through the end of April, for a total of 11 weeks. (Saturdays Dec 24th, 31st, and Jan 7th are all "farm holidays" and there will be no winter share those weeks.) For a full list of the winter share delivery dates and details, please be on the lookout for an email soon!

TURKEYS! Our friends over at Nine Pines Farm have turkeys available for Thanksgiving. They are pasture-raised and fed non-GMO grain. They are on the smaller end at 12-15 lbs, and the price is $5/lb. If you'd like to reserve a turkey, please drop us a line.

SURVEYS! If you have already filled out your CSA survey, thank you so much! We appreciate your input. If you haven't, please take a minute to fill it out. A reminder that if you have a fall share, your CSA season isn't quite over yet! If you're receiving this email, then you have a fall share :)
