Farm Happenings for the week of November 5, 2022

Posted on November 1st, 2022 by Jessica Foote

Hello All!

Welcome to the start of the Winter Season for 2022/2023!

So with the first few baskets we have a lot of opportunity to grab up some imperfect vegetables to process and freeze as soups or additions to recipes over the Winter months! I hate waste and grew up having to stretch a dollar, and with grandparents who went thru the depression learned the value of imperfects! Please select with this in mind so u do not end up with unwanted vegetables!

I will list the #2 so you can recognize the items you want or do not want easily! We have #2 Green Kale @ 1.50$/good for kale chips, or puree to add greens to soups all winter! It has been wind burnt so slightly yellowed. Soup Celery, our celery this year suffered with the lack of rain, but it makes incredible soup stock, and juicing material, the nutrition is still high, just very concentrated flavor, these are also 1.50$/unit. Last but not least are the #2 Squash, these guys want to be prepared soon, would be great to cook & freeze, or make a bunch of soup that you can have ready for the late nights, when you don't feel like cooking. Soup & salad will do! These guys are Mixed Varieties 3 for 2$! Will be any variety!

Currently at the farm we are trying to get the winter veg into storage! The weather has been kind, although I am aware it can turn at any point! Left in the field are some winter radishes, purple top turnips, golden beets, celeriac, parsnips, and an incredible number of carrot rows! We are hoping to before November 14th, when two more of our team head home to Mexico! Then hopefully just a little clean up & a whole pile of fire wood & clean up to start tackling from our spring "Derecho", or whatever that freak storm was called!

Don't forget to top up your box with meat, baked goods, herbal teas, honey, and I can't remember what else! From our online store, if you want to start on a 100% local kick! Visit
