Farm Happenings for the week of May 13, 2023

Posted on May 8th, 2023 by Jessica Foote

Hello Garden Friends,

This is the last week of our Spring CSA! Hard to believe it went so fast, summer baskets start the week of June 6th, and if you do not already know we will be changing our online platform over to a new service with the start of the Summer CSA program. We believe it will greatly improve your experience with the farm. We will be working with one platform for both the CSA baskets, and the online store so it will streamline our services. You won't have to visit two platforms to get all your grocery needs. You will have your veggies covered, and if choose to do so you can hope over and top up your basket with eggs, meat, honey, or whatever! So much less confusion. Anyhow, enough for now lets head on over to a real farm update.

This past week we got most of our onions and leeks in the ground, all of our kale, and parsley is transplanted. The second & third plantings of lettuce, bok choi, and kohlrabi are in the ground! And greens bed number two goes in the field this week! The other exciting arrival this week is our strawberry plants, we are planting new June bearing varieties, and our first ever planting of everbearing strawberries will be going in as well!

Two more of our Mexican team members have arrived and we are starting to get into our summer rhythm. Next week marks the start of Whitby Farmers Market & the Port Perry Farmers Market. It is crazy how fast the season starts rolling, and it always surprises me how much we manage to get done.

Our seedling sale is this coming Saturday, it is being done with pre-order via our online store. You can place orders here if you are looking for some plants for your garden this summer. https://www.csafarmdurhamkawartha.com/product-category/mini-market/

That is all for now, I could go on forever, but I really need to get back to work on this beautiful sunny day!

Cheers your farmer,

Jess

SMILE!
