Farm Happenings for the week of September 6, 2022

Posted on August 31st, 2022 by Jessica Foote

Well, next week it is officially September! Hard to believe, time seems to fly by and stand still all at once. Hope that any send offs to school go well next week, and all returns to regular work patterns are welcomed after any time off.

I find the seasonal cycles beautiful, and overwhelming at the same time, as they all come with a different pressure! Spring is planting & hoping it grows, as June rolls in and the real harvest starts you relax a little because you feel like you got this. Then summer is maintenance, harvest, weed, a nice rhythm, with a calm repeat mode. Fall is holly shit how are we going to get this all in from the field?!? Are we going to have enough time for that crop to mature, when is the first killing frost going to hit! Will the peppers & eggplants yield before then? Are the winter storage carrots going to be big enough....the list goes on. Let's start Winter CSA sign up, well I need these plants a certain size first & greens all need to have germinated, is it going to store....

Anyhow, the variety is changing, squash season is here and we are going to try and make sure you get every variety, some winter kohlrabi is ready a little to early so you are going to get to enjoy! We have so many gorgeous flowers right now they are going to be on offer in the shares this wekk, along with the end of zucchini and cucumbers.

We also have whole and half chickens available, ground pork in, and we need to find 10 more homes for the pastured pork at Kevins Ranch, they are 5$/lbs hanging weight, with additional fees from the abattoir for smoking, or sausages. There will also be more ground beef available soon!

Farm Star Petting Zoo bookings will continue to be available for the remaining season, we will be figuring out what Sundays can be made available! And as soon as the veggies are out of the ground I will be offering wagon rides, and this winter sleigh rides, just for fun! Any week days, and probably some Saturdays & Sundays since my work schedule can be adapted.

See you next week!

Cheers your farmer,

Jess
