Farm Happenings for the week of April 30, 2022

Posted on April 26th, 2022 by Jessica Foote

So we are here,

What do I mean by that? I feel like a season holds in limbo for a certain period of time before it truly starts to roll out! We have been waiting, preparing, all knowing that the gun will go off and the race will begin, the execution of all the plans that started last year to make another successful season in 2022. So what I mean is the mad dash has started this week, tractor wheels will turn, the traces on the horse equipment will sing, amendments will be applied, kale, swiss chard, leeks, onions, broccolinni, beets, parsley, will be transplanted....parsnips, carrots, beets, peas, & green onions, and greens beds will be seeded into the field...and the race is on.

The week will fly by with early mornings & late nights, we will fall asleep pleasantly exhausted. And wake up with a to do list longer then we think is manageable, but we will always manage to get it done! Because that is the kind of team we have....I compare it to the Jason Aldean -Night Train Album Song "The Only Way I Know" . I don't really like country music much but that song was our anthem for 2013, and I certainly relate well to it! I was simply designed to keep going no matter what the odds, and that is the farm girl in me. The summer will proceed spring and the harvest a beautiful crops, challenges unforeseen at this moment in time will arise and we "won't look back, or back down" , we will overcome and roll on into the fall, and enter a sleepy slumber by winter. What a beautiful journey we will all enjoy....I look forward to sharing it with you once again.

So enough rambling! This week will see more sprouts, and larger selection of greens! And some amazing sweet potatoes from Bowmans Organic Farm! My run to Elmira for irrigation and garden supplies was quite fruitful & I topped up our cupboards with some tasty produce from great friends!

If you need any other great local products check out our Mini Market!

I know it seems a little odd to run two programs at once! But it is only because I really don't want to push prices higher then necessary. I believe good food should be local, high quality & sustainable accessible! This combo works for the farm & you! All these amazing products will be available in our Farm Stand this Summer when you pick up your veggies!

Look forward to seeing you soon!

Cheers your farmer, Jess
