Farm Happenings for the week of January 22, 2022

Posted on January 17th, 2022 by Jessica Foote

Hello All!

Hope you are enjoying the winter wonderland, that nature has delivered! Despite the extra work it brings, I love the snow and the cleanliness & brightness it brings with it. I also love the sound of winter, it is quite and loud all at once. When the silence is disturbed, the noise , birds calling or the dog bark, are crisper just like the air, and carry for what seems like miles....

I will finally for the first time in two years going to be able to break out the sleigh with the horses! Yeah! Reach out if you think you would like a sleigh ride in the winter wonderland! Call or text: 905-986-9612. It is 75$ for CSA members, and 100$ for anyone else. Generally an hour or so!

Also, on the to do list is fire wood, garden planning, and various maintenance projects. Maybe building more crates for veggie storage, and definitely need to create a couple more rabbit pens for the outdoor pasturing season.

We are planning on listing our Spring CSA shortly! And are adding a flower share in the summer months! Fresh bouquets from Mid July to September, whenever the frost hits! We have always grown flowers, but I haven't done a good job of tracking the season. They are something that brightens the day in the field and on the kitchen table. I love fresh picked bouquets around the house. I will certainly be signing myself up!

For this order since it is our last official Winter CSA basket, we have added some bulk order items such as carrots & beets for purchase as extras with your order all of them are at a reduced cost from our current market & mini market prices 2$/lbs carrots & beets, are on for 1.75$/lbs. And we have 5lbs bags of #2 sweet potatoes at 1.50$/lbs ( small & or damaged during harvest, or some bug damage on the skin). I was going to put them in the baskets but was afraid that it would cancel out your variety selection, based on the likes and dislikes in your profile & larger ticket item!

Look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Cheers your farmer,

Jess
