Farm Happenings for the Week of June 8, 2021

Posted on June 3rd, 2021 by Jessica Foote

Hello all & Welcome!

The first week of CSA is upon us! Hard to believe that the time is flying so fast, but the second week of June is already here and the growing season is under way. The team here at Lunar Rhythm Gardens has been busy seeding, transplanting, and weeding so we can have an incredible harvest to enjoy all year round!

So that being said there have been hiccups along the way of course the weather is beyond our control and we have lost a few beds of greens to bolting prematurely, the drought like conditions have slowed germination on a few crops, and then guess what we had three days of overnight lows with frost! Like throw curve balls or what mother nature!!!

Anyhow, blessed are we to have rain today for the first time in 3 weeks, and in anticipation yesterday we worked like busy bees, transplanting & seeding, because there is nothing like a rained in planting.

We will once again this year be collaborating with our fellow farmer friends, to keep the diversity in our start up baskets!

Eat Local Muskoka will be the grower of mesclun, green onions, chard, and spinach they had a huge surplus in their tunnels and we don't want to see it go to waste! (Eat Local Muskoka grows organically but is not certified.) Our tunnels have already been changed over to tomatoes and cukes! Looking forward to early cukes, keep your fingers crossed.

We will also continue to have Kendal Hills Mushrooms, they are so delicious that I can't imagine not having access to these babies now that I have become accustomed to adding them to our meal plan!

We also have some tomato seedlings that are offered up in this first basket! It is a mix of Black krim, Stripped German, and Juliet salad tomatoes. These will only be on offer this week what ever remains will go in our garden.

Please make sure and check your addresses for pick up locations! Peterborough, Lindsay, and Brooklin drop offs have changed location!

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Cheers your farmer, Jess
