Farm Happenings for the week of August 15, 2020

Posted on August 13th, 2020 by Jessica Foote

OMG! The summer is flying buy and one day perhaps I will get some sleep? Hahaha! We spent yesterday the last week celebrating my bday and Jessalynn's. Well not all week but our birthdays are a week apart I have mixed emotions she is 10. Time flies most of you have seen her grow up at drop of and markets, I just wonder how it is possible that we hit double digits? The garden is officially 11yrs old as well I look back and wonder how we got to where we are, I never forget the journey but the evolution has been rapid. Well I am reminiscing to much let's look at here and now! So cool news I think I have someone that is going to join the crew to help on the administration end of things, I wear many hats and sort of manage but could use maybe some help? So we have done an interview, and next Wednesday I am going to show her some of the tasks to start with and it will evolve and grow and build its rhythm from there! Keep you posted!

So the corn is teasing us! As you can see it's coming.... so are beans so get ready to eat them! Zucchini and cukes are dying not that we really had great cucumbers this year, winter squash is joining us, and well watermelons I don't know what to say they have been huge and difficult to put in shares, we can't transport the miniature babies and are low on regular sizes because the crows keep eating them! Can't win some days for losing?

All extras are under the picture alfalfa, we will have peaches, plums, and nectarines again this coming week! Remember that if you are a Saturday pick up we may not have the fruit in stock till Tuesday! We will then call you when it is packed and ready to go! We apologize for the inconvenience but that is the day the truck comes up from Niagara with Colin from EAt Local Muskoka!

We also have APPLES from Prima Orchard starting this week in extras, we will also put some in the shares this week for people to try in 2lbs bags. Rami has a low spray orchard on HWY 7A just 5 minutes down the road! So great to find like minded people so close to home. We have worked together for at least 6 years with the apples, taking them to Lakefield Market and I put some away for winter ( I as in someone cans me some applesauce!Hahaha!)

Long story short be sure to read the labels under the pictures of alfalfa! We are hoping to have the photos updated soon....administration assistant!!!

See you soon!

Cheers your farmer, Jess
