Farm Happenings for the week of July 9, 2019

Posted on July 5th, 2019 by Jessica Foote

I feel summer has decided to arrive! The heat is finally here and I hope everyone is enjoying it...There are beautiful things the garden is starting to yield like broccoli, dill, cilantro, zucchini, cucumbers, we have the start of beets, wow! So much great eating. Hope you are planning some fun BBQ's with family and friends. We have been making skewers with our pork & beef and all the fun veggies on the BBQ, to go along with eating lot's of salads. How about a breakfast of sauteed chard, garlic scapes, & a couple eggs?

Anyhow, enough about food even though that is what we specialize in! I feel we are finally winning the battle against the weeds, maybe :). We have being getting our hay in for our livestock, the sunny weather has been a great asset. We will be starting our winter storage seeding next week, it is hard to believe how fast the growing season passes. Carrots will go in now, next week beets, and the first week of August will see us plant our storage turnips, & daikon. All for happy eating for our Winter CSA members! Sign ups won't start till mid August though as I don't like to commit until I have something growing.

See you all soon!

Your Farmer, Jess
