CSA Week 20 - Frost on the fields, tears in our eyes and joy in our hearts

View from the Tractor - The Final Share

20 weeks ago I was so excited about the season ahead with life in full swing around the farm. We had a couple of big projects done, the fields planted and so much food ready to go. Now at the end of the season I think I am just as excited about finishing the season on a high note, clearing the fields and doing our work to be even more prepared for 2023.

It has been wild year. The weather, inflation, supply chain challenges and labor issues have forced all of us to stretch and grow this season. My main focus is always food quality, food nutritional value and meeting the commitments I make to you all. Keeping my eyes on these goals helps weather the storms and keep all of us moving forward.

2022 was not only hard on the farmers at Kilt Farm, but also farmers all around the Front Range who have been buckling under from the stress and losing their operations. When the world gets a little wobbly and uncertain, much like now, it is nice to know that we have local food available for our community. This is what all small farmers strive to make accessible despite and through all of the challenges.

Your support of our farm as a CSA Member gives us the drive to keep moving forward. I so appreciate the trust you put into all of us at Kilt Farm to feed you and your family this year.

After we get the opportunity to rest up from the 2022 farming season, we will start working on the 2023 season so we can feed you and our community for another year.

We cannot express our gratitude to you enough. We are honored to have each and every one of you as a part of our Kilt Farm Family.

Read on for an important Carving Pumpkin announcement, add-ons & extras, and veggie features for this final CSA!

Last chance to add extra veggies to your share!

Preserve your veggies and stock up for the winter!

What an amazing season it has been. Through all of the triumphs and trials 2022 brought us, we finally made it to the end of the CSA. From artichokes to okra to squashes and even melons, we've been honored to grow a wide variety of nutrient-dense, colorful, regenerative & organic-grown vegetables for you this year.

Since we have now arrived at the final week of the CSA, this is your last chance to add extra veggies to your share. Freeze them, can them, dry them, or store them any way you'd like to make sure you are stocked up on fresh & local vegetables to use in the winter. While we may be taking down the fields and preparing the soil for the next season, there is still so much life and delicious veggies to offer.

Add-Ons and Extras

Last call to try some of our special extras!

We are honored to have been able to work with some very special artisan makers and farmers this season to bring some unique extras to your table. Adding on some of these great products not only maximizes your share (& what's for dinner!), but also contributes to supporting local vendors right here in Boulder and Colorado!

Thank you for supporting our wonderful partners this year by trying out their products and adding them to your share. If you haven't tried any of these awesome products yet, here's your sign!

PASTIFICIO BOULDER

Make some Autumn Vegetable Pasta using your Pasticicio Boulder pasta, Hazel Dell Mushrooms, and of course loads of veggies from your CSA share!

KILT FARM + NIMBUS APIARY RAW HONEY

Add some Kilt Farm Raw Honey to your jams, toast, salad dressings, and so much more! Psst... We like to just eat this gorgeous & unique honey straight from the jar.

PUEBLO SEED & CO

There are only a few Pueblo Seed cereals spices and cookies left-- Grab yours before we sell out to try the freshest, organic and locally grown + dried grain products in Colorado.

HAZEL DELL MUSHROOMS

Add your organic & local Hazel Dell Mushrooms and add to your Autumn veggie dishes or sauté them for a delicious side (think garlic, leeks, onion caramelized in a cast iron pan with butter or olive oil).

FRESH HERB & CO

Brighten someone day (or maybe even your own) with some gorgeous bouquets of Fresh Herb and Co locally-grown and arranged flowers!

FRUIT FROM THE WESTERN SLOPES

A reminder that although the Fruit Share is over, you can still add fruit to your share fresh from the Western Slopes!

This final week we are offering sides of Elephant Heart Plums, Honey Crisp and Gala Apples in 3lb bags. Make your pies, tarts, jams --and of course snacks-- as local as it gets with some fruit in your share.

ANNOUNCEMENT: CARVING PUMPKINS!!

Halloween is right around the corner-- and we know it's not just the kiddos who are excited (because we certainly are!).

This is your last chance to secure a carving pumpkin for the season.

Add one (or more!) on to your share and come pick up your carving pumpkins at the farm on Saturday October 22nd between 10AM and 2PM!

Note: these will NOT be delivered with your share and must be picked up at the farm at 8140 Oxford Road in Niwot.

If you cannot make it on the 22nd to pick up your pumpkin, please email csamanager@kiltfarm.com to see if we can make other arrangements for you!

Pumpkin sizes vary and will be sold for $5 each.  It's a great excuse to get one last walk around the farm, connect with the community, and grab some fun pumpkins for your doorstep to carve and get creative!

ANNOUNCEMENT: AUTO RENEW AROUND THE CORNER!

A reminder that Auto Renew will begin the beginning of November from the 7th to the 11th! Note, that if you have not adjusted your settings in your Harvie Profile, Auto Renew is automatically turned on.

Make sure you check your settings to ensure you secure a spot in next year's CSA! We will be sending out emails in the coming weeks that explain how Auto Renew works and next steps as we prepare for the 2023 CSA.

We want to thank you again for being a part of our farm this year. It truly means the world to us and we couldn't do this without you. Rebuilding soil health, tending to the fields, planting, harvesting, weeding, processing, and packing veggies for the CSA and our wholesale partners is hard work, but it is the most rewarding work out there. We cannot express our gratitude to all of you enough-- You are the reason small farms and businesses can grow and thrive here in Colorado.

We hope you enjoy your final CSA share of the season. Stay tuned for emails about Auto-Renew and signing up for next years season, and please don't hesitate to share your thoughts about the season with us.

Wishing all of you good health, a cozy winter, and good food.

Dana, CSA Manager
