CSA Week 10 - Half way but the best is just getting started.

Posted on August 6th, 2021 by Michael Moss

Howdy from a moist summer farm. An epic little storm just blew through giving us some rain and clearing the air for a little while. It has been a blessing seeing some of the monsoon rains make their way all the way to Boulder County.

So we are well into August and this is the 10th CSA of the season. We reached the half way point and I am starting to feel more excited about what we can offer in the shares. More importantly I feel comfortable with our production to add extra into the over all csa to help with swaps so you can really customize to your hearts extent. This week we were able to harvest field tomatoes, heirlooms tomatoes ( not too many of these ), shishitio peppers, purple peppers, fairy tale eggplants and so much more. Oh and one of my mid-summer favorites, lemon cucumbers. We have finally reached a bounty of summer fruits. The harvest stafff may be grumbling a little about being hunched over pepper plants, but I make sure they get a few shishitos to roast on the grill to make it all worth while.

I appreciate your patience as we worked hard to get to this point. Enjoy your food, there will be lot's more coming over the next 10 weeks.

Add Ons - This week we are bagging up squash blossoms for the adventurous cooks. These beauties are considered the raviolis of the plant world. My favorite way to cook them is to stuff them with a mix of cheese, herbs and sausage and ether fry or roast in the oven. Amazing.

We also have extra peaches, nectarines and plums available to add to your shares. As you can see from the photo above, Aiden loves a good peach. Read more about these below.

How about the amazing pasta this year. The folks over at Pastificio have been making amazing shapes with their heirloom grain. This week we have little calamari shaped pasta, hence the name, "Calamarata."

Fruit Share - So I am able to bring in some of the most delicious plums around for this weeks share. The LA Times calls the Greengage Plum, "The holy grail of stone fruit." I am looking forward to eating these plums and see what the hype is all about. We will also have Nectarines in the shares this week to change things up. I am sure we will back into peaches next week, but if you heed some free stone peaches to start preserving we have some New Haven peaches and Topaz Peaches you can order as an add on.

As we finish another week at the farm with some moisture under my feet, I feel blessed to do this work and honored to feed you and our community. Have a wonderful and fun filled weekend.
