Week 2 CSA: It's hot out here!

Posted on June 11th, 2021 by Michael Moss

Happy Friday.

This week it felt like the switch was flipped from our never-ending winter/spring, straight to Texas-hot summer. There have been an abundance of red cheeks and sweat-marks around the farm as we have been hustling to catch up. Gratefully, we have largely been able to irrigate our crops and duck under the shade when the temps hit the mid 90's.

Over the last week at our Gunbarrel farm, we have planted our artichokes, tomatoes, basil, and many of our peppers. We are also seeing great germination in our cucumbers and summer squash. Hopefully, we will be able to get the rest of the summer crops in next week. In Niwot, we are taking down the cover crops and preparing beds. We have finally been able to plant more salad mix, turnips, chard, and beets. Through it all, we have been weeding as fast as we can since the weeds are loving this weather.

This week we bringing in amazing mini English Cucumbers from our friend Jeremy over at Rocky Mountain Fresh. These are greenhouse-grown in Erie and are spray-free and delicious. I feel so blessed that we can work with other farms to help us through this thin part of the season. Enjoy.

Friendly Reminder: Please make sure you take the CSA box with your name on it. We had a few mix-ups last week that we'd love to avoid going forward.
