The turning of a season

Posted on August 30th, 2019 by Michael Moss

In the farming world, the doorway to fall is not the kids going back to school and the leaves changing. It's the harvest of melons, winter squash and red bell peppers. This week we started harvesting the melons and winter squash with the red peppers hopefully right around the corner. Parts of the farm are definitely starting to smell like fall; ripe and ready.

This week we are going to offer sweet melons, great greens, fresh yellow onions, cherry tomatoes, peppers and so much more. Please take a moment to customize your box to maximize your thrill of the harvests. Over the next few weeks you will start to see some of our fall brassicas, more melons, Italian peppers, red bells, cippolinni onions and so much more.

If you get a melon in your share, let it sit on your counter at room temperature. It is ready when it is slightly soft at the blossom end. Enjoy.

Reaching this point of the season with an amazing staff, food in the fields, amazing CSA members and community support fills me with pride for all we have accomplished this year. Farmers live on a steady diet of hope and, as I get closer to September, I am filled with hope for an amazing end of the season. I am already looking forward to next year.

Fruit Share - This week are putting into your boxes more peaches, possibly peaches and pears or apples.

Egg Update - This has been a long summer for egg layers. As of this week we are no longer able to provide for the egg shares. We have sent emails to all of the members who have egg share to explain how we have credited their accounts. If you have any questions, please reply to this email. Moving forward we are going to have a very limited amount eggs available for adding to your shares.

Thank you so much for being a member of the farm. We can't do it with out you.
