Happy Summer Solstice

Posted on June 21st, 2019 by Michael Moss

Welcome to the longest day of the year and the official beginning of summer. Mother Nature is keeping us on our toes; there is snow in the forecast at higher elevations over the weekend. Oh Colorado.

Our focus right now is to plant out our fall crops. Today we began transplanting our fall veggies. Our red cabbage is the slowest growing so is the first to be planted.  Over the next week we will be planting the green cabbage,  napa cabbage, multiple successions of broccoli, cauliflower, and greens. In the greenhouse we are seeding fall chicories, and lettuces.

We are also reaping the benefit of past work with our first harvests of basil and pulling in the garlic scapes. It's exciting to see the summer crops explosive growth in the field day after day. It's even more exciting to see how our farm crew light up when watching their work come to life.

We are brewing up our next farm event. Keep your eyes peeled for details in next week's email.

Stay warm and dry this weekend and enjoy the first taste of a crazy Colorado summer. The intense heat is right around the corner.
