Farm Happenings for September 7, 2023

LETTUCE IN AUGUST

Farmer Phil is a lettuce-growing master. It took years to trial different lettuce varieties, selecting the ones that can tolerate the summer heat without bolting or getting bitter. Phil has found the right balance of successional plantings (repetitive small batches), so that they are harvested quickly. Years of trials has led to these past few years of nearly weekly lettuce all summer long. Even through August. Enjoy your salads!

ADD WHOLE WATERMELON TO YOUR SHARE

You can customize your share in Harvie, pulling in a whole watermelon worth 2 items. It will charge your card for the extra item or you can swap it for 2 items by removing two items then adding in the whole watermelon. If you have two halves on your list, we might cross it out and write in a whole one. You can buy extra too, by adding to your order list, and now is the time to do that! Our heirloom watermelons are DELICIOUS and READY NOW.

WHAT'S GROWING ON

As we welcome in September, school days and look toward fresh fall routines, we hold steady with some of our summer crops on the farm and look toward our fall crops coming soon. Summer squash, peppers, basil, potatoes, onions, garlic, cabbage, lettuce are all features. Along with delicious watermelon, a treat for you! It won't be long before we start harvesting butternut squash. The sweet potatoes are still small and may take extra time.

U-PICK continues! Enjoy the U-Pick flower row, new beans in the Bean Hut and some cherry tomatoes in Candy Lane.
