WHAT'S GROWING ON

We continue to watch the heavier crops come into harvest. Zucchini is starting to roll. We'll be harvesting every few days to keep up with it. It's growing just to the right of the hoophouse, so check out the crop when you are here. Squash plants are so big, with beautiful yellow flowers. It's called "Summer Squash" on the harvest because we might also have patty pan squashes in the bin too. They are slower to start. And this week...broccoli! We have a lot of it and it does not hold well, not on the plant or in the cooler. So get it while it's here! Fun fact: kale makes broccoli too. Plants in the broccoli family all bloom into little edible broccoli shoots which will then bloom into yellow flowers; we eat them all winter off our kale plants. Essentially, broccoli has been bred to bolt into its flower stage and kale has been bred to stay in it's leafy stage longer.

FARM HANDS HEADS UP

Next Farm Hands Day is planting sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes grow from a sprout that shoots off of a planted sweet potato and its called a slip. We'll be planting sweet potato slips this week, join us. This is a good job for all ages, your little ones can help you plant. I encourage everyone to check out what we are doing this week and learn how they grow...you can track their progress all the way to the September harvest!

Planting sweets: Thursday June 17 11am-1pm

Planting sweets: Friday June 18 9am-1pm

Thank you to those who came to help with the cabbage harvest! We harvested over 150 napa cabbages. They need to be picked right away once they are ready but they hold well in cool storage. We'll be harvesting more round cabbages over the next couple weeks.

What are Farm Hands Days? Sometimes I'll offer up a "Farm Hands" opportunity. These are opportunities to help grow the crops that feed our community. You might be planting or harvesting. You'll learn as you help out!
