CSA Week #1 - Pick Up

Posted on May 17th, 2024 by Bonnie and Rudy Geber

Remember to swing by your pick up place this week to grab your first box of the season!

Market pick up: We'll be at the Farmers Market tomorrow from 3-6:30. We keep your boxes chilling in Vanna White, so it doesn't matter when you come in that window, your produce will be cool and fresh. The market has been especially busy this season, and has adjusted the layout to allow for more vendors and better customer access. If this is your first time this year, you'll find us at the back of the market on the left!

On farm pick up: If you chose on farm pick up, we'll see you between 2-5 on Friday afternoon. If that window doesn't work for you, just let us know, there will be someone at the farm earlier, we just try to have the bulk of pick ups during a set time so that we can really dig into some major farm projects on Fridays.

The theme of this first week (and pretty much every season's first week!) is salads! Your box is full of great greens to enjoy raw in a salad - lettuce, spinach, arugula, microgreens, and lots of roots. So try out some of the recipes in your first email, or check out this easy dressing recipe that we have been liking a lot lately: Everyday Salad Dressing - it's fantastic with a little feta!

We'll be doing our absolute best to make sure that your share contains exactly what you ordered. We'll check your label at pick up and make sure that we give you any extras or add-ons, but we are human...so if you think we missed something, let us know!

Cheers, Bonnie & Rudy

Photo above is our successions of salad mix, that we are really encouraging to grow faster! You'll notice this week, that your salad mix has an extra crunch (that's a little bit of spinach mixed in). This spring has been much later, in terms of maturing crops, than last and while our outside salad is looking great, it wasn't quite mature enough to harvest this week, so we're stretching our salad plantings inside our hoops as far as we can to meet up with outside production.

PS. A reminder...Most of you are on the default payment plan for your CSA Share (unless you opted to pay all at once). The payment plan a-goes like-a-this: When you signed up, you were charged 25% of the total cost of the CSA share. At your first pick up, you'll be charged another 25%, and the remaining 50% will be spread across all of the pick ups in the season. So you'll see a larger charge this week because it's charging for that 25%.
