Week #7 - Pick Up

Posted on June 30th, 2023 by Bonnie and Rudy Geber

Had to grab a funny pic of the crew that was working on the 4th of July. We can't imagine that many small farms like ours are able to take the holiday off. All of our days are pretty regimented this time of year. Mondays are greens harvesting, seeding, and harvesting crops like squash, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, i.e. those crops that need to be harvested regularly and often to ensure that we're getting the fruit at it's optimum condition. Tuesdays are a major harvest day and greens washing, Wednesdays are packing and deliveries, more harvesting, and lots of planting, Thursdays are CSA packing, market prep, harvesting, and more planting, Fridays are harvest estimates, bed prep and crop clean up...and generally more planting! We do lots of things every day, but that's the major scheme of our week, and it takes all day (and then some!) to get it done. So we all understand that taking a full day off, is not really feasible, because there's no where to push the catch up to. All that to say, that we really appreciate our crew working on the 4th of July (and any other) holidays. In fact, we appreciate anyone who was on the clock on Tuesday, because we all really rely on those 'essential' things that life just wouldn't be the same without...even for a day!

Needless to say, though it was a hot and dusty day, with hundreds of pounds of produce harvested and moved. Everyone still had the gumption for a little humor at the end of the day, so we feel pretty lucky! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are having a great week. It's time to grab your produce box, so we'll see you at your pick up location!

Some things that you might be interested in that we have at market if you're a canner are bulk 10# bags of beets and bulk 10# bags of pickling cucumbers. Remember, that as a CSA or Farm Stand person, you're a VIP, so just ask Rudy at the pick up table if you'd like to grab anything extra from the market side while you're picking up!

Cheers, Bonnie & Rudy =)
