CSA Week#16-A

Posted on August 31st, 2021 by Bonnie and Rudy Geber

Rudy and Cartman waiting out a downpour today with a load of winter squash. We pulled into the wash pack to stay dry until we could unload the harvest into the curing area. Friday was another good harvest day, we finished the onion harvest, and got another good load of potatoes and winter squash out of the field. Looking forward to more progress on those on Monday!

It's week #16 of our 18 week CSA season. We do expect to have some farm stand boxes available beyond the CSA, but it's still a bit of a surprise to realize that we're closing in on the last couple of weeks! That means that our harvest lists are very long and Harvie is only able to fit 7-10 items in your boxes each week. So if those items aren't the ones you'd like, there are lots of other options! Click the link in this email to customize your box for the week ahead. Don't forget to add on extras while we've got them available! We have our own bulk garlic this week, as well as farm fresh eggs from the Miller Farm, honey from McLaury Apiaries, bread & bagels from the Gracious Table, and beautiful bouquets from Dragon's Breath Farm. Dragon's Breath Farm is located up Silver Butte Creek Road south of Libby; it's a much harsher climate which means more and earlier frosts. And that means earlier ends to the season, so grab those lovely blooms while you can!

Enjoy the mild weekend weather that we have forecast. I know we are looking forward to appreciating that sunshine without also baking under it.

Cheers, Bonnie & Rudy

PS. For those who are wondering what to do with the tomatillos in your box, consider making salsa verde. It's super quick and easy, and SO delicious. Many people falsely think that salsa verde is made with green tomatoes. It certainly can be made with them, but it's traditionally made with tomatillos - SO GOOD!
