First Winter Harvest Share of the Season!

Posted on November 23rd, 2021 by Sarah Duprey

Hurray!  The cold weather has arrived!  Welcome CSA die-hards, committed local eaters, and adventurous newbies!  Eating local in the winter gets a bit of a tough rep since it is in fact very cold in Maine, and we are truly used to the reality of any veggie we want from California (or across the world) at any time (and stepping away from peppers in January can be hard), but I really think it can be the most rewarding time to commit to eating local.  Plus we have an awesome line up for you all this winter!  We have more greens than ever before planted in our greenhouses, literal tons of potatoes, squash, roots and more stored on the farm, and LOTS of delicious local extras to keep well fed from now until March (and beyond!).

We really hope you enjoy eating your way through the winter with us and have a great time cooking all the bounty that Maine has to offer in the colder months!

A little housekeeping for the new season:

1) Please review your sign-up email (your confirmation at sign-up) as it has lots of good information about how our CSA works.  Please, in particular review, the information about our payment plan, customizing your share, and holds and reschedules, as these all can be critical in the first week, time sensitive, and often cause a lot of questions.

2) Don't forget to customize your share or add extras by 7:00 PM SUNDAY evening!  You must also put shares on hold or reschedule for the coming week by this time.  We send out reminders, but we really encourage you to set your own in case you don't check your email or an email ends up in a SPAM filter.

3)  You will get emails on Monday or Tuesday detailing your specific site's pick-up information.  Even if you received a share over the summer or Autumn, please be sure to double check times and days as some change in the winter.

4)Don't forget that your winter share has a pantry item in it!  This week's is organic tomato passata (more info below).  If it is not listed in your box it is because you have ranked the item a 1 in your preferences, meaning it will not appear.  You can swap the item in or out manually as inventory allows.

4) Contact the farm at farmers@harvesttideorganics.com with any questions.
