Autumn Harvest Share - Week 3

Posted on October 29th, 2021 by Sarah Duprey

Holy mole how did we get to November already?!

I don't know how this month snuck up on us, as it feels like we've had our toes dipping into fall for quite a while now, but here we are surprised at how quickly the time has gone!  We had our first frosts, first light, then hard this week effectively ending the long reign of summer veggies, though we did manage to save a bit of peppers so enjoy the last bits of spicy peppers and shishitos this next delivery!  Frosts begin the process of sweetening our carrots and parsnips, so we've just begin the giant task of pulling all the carrots out that will last us until spring, a task that will keep us busy through the month of November.  The onset of later fall also means two things 1) Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and have we got the veggies and local goods for you and 2) Winter CSA share sign-ups are open!  Learn more below!

Eat Local this THANKSGIVING

As a fall share member, you will get a box the week before Thanksgiving, and we want you to know that we have you covered for many of the fixings this year.  We'll have so much from our farm to cook your meal with headed your way (potatoes, sweet potatoes, celery, pie pumpkins, carrots, lots of greens and more!) plus all kinds of other amazing products to really bring Maine-made food into your holiday.  Local, organic cranberries!  Locally made organic cranberry sauce!  Various local cheeses for your cheese plates, grains for your stuffing, apples for your pies!  Get ready, it's gonna be a great Maine Thanksgiving!  All these items can be added during your regular customization window, so you'll be notified the Friday before delivery to add what you'd like - stay-tuned!

Winter and *New* Spring CSA sign-ups are now open!

Now is the time to reserve your share for Maine's deep winter and the spring!  Now you can officially eat super local with us all year round!  The Winter and Spring shares are just like your Fall and Summer shares, they just highlight foods that can grow and store in Maine through the Winter, plus other local "pantry items" to spice up your boxes such as preserves, grains, pickles, kraut, and more!  Plus all the yummy extras from our farm partners that you love!

Saying So Long!

The crew this year has really stolen our heart, and this week we're saying so long (for now at least) to three awesome humans who helped grow your food all summer long.  Malcolm and Carlos are headed back to Jamaica for the winter, and Lily is off to work in Maine state government.  We couldn't be more grateful for their contributions to the farm this summer, and we're really going to miss them all.  Luckily Malcolm and Carlos will be back next summer, and Lily is close enough that we can hopefully lure her back with a staff dinner now and again!

The crew on the farm is 100% makes it all happen and they are so amazing! Thanks, team!
