**LAST** Winter Harvest Share - Week 8

Posted on March 11th, 2021 by Sarah Duprey

We've reached the end of our winter eating journey!  This coming week of deliveries marks the end of our Winter Harvest CSA, just in time for us to fully switch gears on the farm into full-fledged spring!  This is, in fact, the plan, as this switching of gears always sneaks up on us and is a big physical and mental shift on the farm.  It's like all the "homework" of winter planning comes due as the greenhouse gets cranked on, we start to bring in new staff, and the snow begins to melt.  Taking a break from deliveries helps as really orient to spring for a good  start to the season.

All this prepping for summer aside, it feels really important to note what an exceptional winter this has been on the farm.  This has been our 6th winter on the farm, but the first where we've had multiple employees in year-round.  While Eric and I are still a big part of the day to day, having other awesome people around to help in the heavy lifting, the washing, packing, weeding, cleaning, organizing and prepping has meant that not only have Eric and I been able to focus on more big picture stuff going on on the farm that will lead to it's long long term sustainability (and get more rest than we usually do after an unusually stressful year), the farm is in better shape than it's ever been.  The high tunnels are ready for early production, big projects that require warmer weather are already getting tackled, and can we talk about the glow-up that Sarah has given the newsletter - damn :)

We'll be working hard at making sure you "meet" some of the awesome farmers growing your food for you over the summer, but I would also like to recognize the hard work of Jon, Sarah, and Will this winter, too!

And of course, a hardy hardy thank you to all our winter members.  We know some of you are rutabaga diehards, while others are just learning the ins and outs of eating local when summer is long over, but it's your year-round commitment that keeps Harvest Tide growing.  Thank you.

We're also marking this shift to spring by supporting one of our friends in the Maine CSA community - New Roots Farm.  They are working on to secure ownership of their farmland and we're matching your donations!  See below for more info and work with us to help another great local farm project!

Lastly - don't forget summer sign-ups are open now and going fast!  You can sign-up here to reserve your summer and autumn share for 2021 now:

We've got at least one spring pop-up in the works for April and lots of other tricks up our sleeves for the summer, so you'll be hearing from us soon!

Here's to warmer weather and longer days!

ALSO, please return all boxes that you may be holding on to to your pick-up site!  We'll definitely be needing those for the summer!

In addition to  the rolled oats, we had a LOT of extra Kohlrabi Ginger Sauerkraut, so we made that item available again this week!  If you see it in your share and don't want another jar - you can swap it out.  If you want to stock up, you can swap some in!
