Winter Harvest Share - Week 7

Posted on February 25th, 2021 by Sarah Duprey

It's all happening!

Have you seen the sunshine this week?!  Have you been able to get outside?! It has still been cold, but also completely amazing.  I think Eric and I and the crew have had our batteries a little recharged by the glorious sunlight that's been upon the farm the last few days - I know for sure the plants are happy.

We are firing the greenhouse up the greenhouse this week, seeding the earliest of peppers and hopefully some of our onions.  We are working on extending the season of peppers this year, by putting a portion of them into our smaller high-tunnels.  This will hopefully mean we have delicious sweet peppers earlier, but also later in the fall as the tunnels will hopefully stave off the frost a little longer.   These sort of small improvements and adjustments to our production are a constant part of farming.   Every year there is an ironing out of kinks and quirks that didn't work the year before.  We're currently working on some really big projects that will allow us to grow more food and distribute it all more easily.  And if you visit the farm this summer, you're likely to catch a glimpse of the beginnings of our brand new wash and pack facility!  It will increase our cold storage, give us a WAY better and larger space to wash all our veggies, and offer office and employee space, all of which is critical as we grow.  We'll be keeping you posted as things progress!  So far we've just dug the well - which went amazing and came in at over 30 gallons per minute - a groundwater miracle and enough to water our high tunnels and supply any future facility. Stay-tuned for more!

In other news - our sign-ups for summer AND fall have launched!  You can sign-up here:   https://www.harvie.farm/signup/harvest-tide-organics

We had some glitches pop up with our Autumn sign-ups, so many of you who had planned to sign up for both in one go had to wait on fall.  No need to wait any longer, if you're itching to get your name on the books for fall, you can do so now at the link above.

We'll be offering a one-time pop-up of spring-time veggies in the middle of April.  This will be a single share, just like last spring and we'll have details in the coming weeks!
