Last week of summer deliveries!

Posted on September 25th, 2020 by Bethany Allen

This week is the last week of Summer Share deliveries!  If you have a share on hold and want to schedule it for this week  - please let us know by Sunday afternoon.  You also have the option of rescheduling held shares for during our Autumn deliveries, so please plan and reschedule accordingly, and please let us know if you have any trouble.

It was a crazy day here on the farm.  We'd hoped for a chill Friday to prepare for next week and sail into a much needed weekend - the universe had other plans as an underground/brush fire broke out in the woods deep behind the farm (not on our property but on an abutting neighbor's and state land), and our farm was the access point for 3 fire departments and all kinds of heavy equipment to put it out.  The fire is out, and everyone is safe, but wow drama.  This coincided with the delivery of all our new cooler equipment, and phew, it's been a day.  Don't burn anything folks, it's so so so dry out there (they think this one started with an illegal campsite/campfire).

In other farm news - we are working hard planting the greens in our high tunnels that will keep us eating healthfully all winter!  Turning the tunnels around from summer crops to winter greens, involves a lot of labor from our crew.  All the existing plants have to be cut and hauled out, all the landscape fabric that keeps weeds down in the summer pulled out, and then compost and fertilizer hauled in, raked and tilled.  We then have to reset irrigation lines and plant!  We do this to hundreds and hundreds of bed feet in 4 tunnels.

Here is swiss chard (the larger plants) interplanted with arugula (the little green specs) growing for December eating!
