As farmers we try to avoid what we call "rescue missions."  We try to stay ahead of weeds and pests and trellising so things don't get so bad that the crew gets stuck in the weeds (literally).  Generally, it takes way longer to weed a field full of big weeds than a bunch of smaller ones.  And it takes even less time to weed beds before we seed a crop.  Things don't always go according to plan though, and tasks get away from us, the us and the crew are tasked with rescue missions.  Whether you get in there and rescue those parsnips from the weeds, or get those tomatoes trellised before they get too big, rescue missions are major interventions before we get too far into the season to fix things, because come August - the path has been laid.  This year, we've had surprisingly few rescue missions.  Ahead of us lay just a few weeding projects that feel a little daunting.  We learned a lot from last year and have had such an excellent crew that we've been able to stay ahead of things that have bogged us down in the past.  We're feeling pretty proud.  We hope that you will come check it all out with us!

U-pick Update:

The Upick is looking good, so good in fact that we'll open for flower picking next Saturday.  Other veggies are still a ways away, but the flowers are just starting to kick into gear.  Keep your eyes peeled for an email with all the details about visiting our first Upick!
