Hello Members!

Welcome to main season share week #18!

We still have lots of variety of our faithful producers for you this week.  This will likely be our last week for our Asian Eggplant since it is outside and not a fan of the cooler temperatures.  If you love eggplant curry, these ones are great for cubing, roasting with some salt and olive oil and freezing for a little bit of local flavour in the middle of winter.  New this week is the absolutely beautiful Romanesco Cauliflower and back on the menu are baby fennel (so good with roasted chicken and vegetables!) and sweet potato greens, making way for the sweet potato root harvest next week:).

Some of you have been trying out our Kombucha creations (made with our Harmony Farm produce).  Some of you have also been bringing your bottles to our market stand for a refund (thank you!).  For those of you who would prefer to return them at the time of your delivery/pick up, you can leave your bottles out with your cooler or place them in your pick up bin.  We will keep track of how many you have returned and count your refund money toward more kombucha (eg 4 small or medium or six large bottle returns=one free bottle of that size)!

The mushrooms we had hoped to include in your shares this autumn have not worked out.  The mushroom farmer we are collaborating with has had a few technical issues. We are still planning to include his products in the farm share program when they are available again (winter or spring).

We have been desperately wanting to reduce plastic in our deliveries.  Many of you have been returning the plastic bags to reuse and we really appreciate it.  For next year we are thinking of trying an different idea for re-usable bags and would love your help!  One of our friends makes tote bags by re-purposing t-shirts.  We thought we would try this for our Harmony Farm bags.  They are durable, a variety of sizes to accommodate different share sizes and can be washed in between uses to eliminate risk of contamination.  If you have t-shirts that you would like to contribute to the cause, please leave them out with your cooler or drop them off at the farm or the market so that we can add them to our stash and convert them into next year's eco-friendly share bags.

Finally, many of you have been asking us about next season's farm shares.  The Harvie team is working on setting up "auto renew" so that all current members would be automatically enrolled for next year's main season share.  Using auto renew means you do not need to complete registration and preferences again, you would simply pick up where you left off.  We will keep you posted on the process.  Once it is set up, anyone who is not interested can simply turn the auto renew feature off.

Auto renew will not automatically sign you up for our winter or spring shares or the monthly "butcher box" share that we will offer starting in Feb 2024 but we will keep you up to date on those as they roll out:).

Have a great week!

Kate and Greg.
