Farm Happenings for June 1-3, 2023

Posted on May 27th, 2023 by Greg Stainton

Greetings Harmony Farm Members!

This week at the market, we lost track of how many people came by asking for spinach. We didn’t have any(!) but this week for your farm shares, we not only have spinach but a whole assortment of exciting dark leafy greens for you to choose from! For a pop of colour and flavour we also have some tender young radishes (they would be awesome in a salad with some mint and your favourite greens!).

Our summer crops are coming along nicely; the tomatoes have had a little growth spurt and are starting to fruit! As usual, we planted too many seeds and their little brothers and sisters are looking for homes but getting too big to take back and forth to the market so we will offer a mega seedling sale during farm pick up hours (4-6 on Thursday and Friday):

  • $7.50/10” pot tomatoes
  • $5/6” pot cucumbers
  • $2.50/4” pot assorted veggies

Feel free to spread the word!

If you would like to reduce plastic waste and have no use for the pot, please return it and we will be sure to reuse it (many times!)

We will have seedlings out by the pick up location; self serve; payment is in cash by the honour system.

Farm pick ups were really popular last week. This week we will start offering farm pick ups on Thursday and Friday from 4-6. We will offer a self serve format from one of our walk in coolers and will have lots of signs posted to walk you through the steps:).

We have had a few questions over the last few weeks about what happens if members miss a pick up or drop off. It doesn’t happen often but we know that sometimes life is busy and not everything fits in! We want to do everything we can to minimize food waste and to provide a valuable service to our community; we hear many members expressing similar values. Last year we had begun to work with Loaves and Fishes, a local charity that provides affordable meals to those in need. This year, we will continue to donate farm excess to this charity and will plan to donate any missed drop off or pick ups weekly so you can rest assured your forgotten food will go to a good cause!

Have a great week,

Greg, Kate and the Harmony Farm team
