Farm News: OK going on 3 weeks now with NO rain. Barely a drop. That's called drought! It means that lots of time must be spent placing pipe, moving pipe, to get water on crops to keep everything alive. We planted 15,000 sweet potatoes, 5,000 pepper plants, tomatoes, eggplant, melons, sunflowers... you name it and it's now in the ground. We also baled about 100 bales of straw, from our rye cover crop that had been planted last fall (to keep the soil from eroding over the winter, it "covers" the ground... read more »

We are so glad the first week of CSA seemed to go well overall.... Busy Busy time on the farm, catching up from all those rainy days over the past few weeks. Of course farmers love rain, but not too much rain... when it rains a lot, the soil becomes muddy (obviously) and it can't be plowed or planted.... read more »
