Farm Happenings for June 13, 2018

Posted on June 8th, 2018 by Eve Kaplan-Walbrecht

We are so glad the first week of CSA seemed to go well overall.... Busy Busy time on the farm, catching up from all those rainy days over the past few weeks. Of course farmers love rain, but not too much rain... when it rains a lot, the soil becomes muddy (obviously) and it can't be plowed or planted. If tractors go onto wet soil it can compact it, pushing out all the microscopic air pockets that plant roots need to thrive. So now that it's dried out we are planting out everything that was forced to wait... melons, cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and more - everything for all those delicious August veggies we all love. Chris is also planting acres of sunflowers for our first year of a Sunflower Festival! Stay tuned for dates!
