FARM NEWS: The good news is that, as with most of the early-winter shares, we are happy to be able to give you more in the box than you've paid for - we anticipate that some boxes may top out at 15 lbs! Bring your cart and your reusable bags!

Since this is the first share of the season, and you may not know what to expect, if it is not at all what you expected and you are unpleasantly surprised, you can contact us by email and we can discuss switching share types or working something out to resolve the issue. More share info and tips are below in this email - and lots of recipes on the Harvie website! www.harvie.farm

Summer signups are open for 2019 Summer/Fall shares at https://csa.farmigo.com/join/gardenofevefarm Makes a great holiday gift too! Special discount code FARMERCHRIS for those who sign up in 2018 - $10 off!

SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT WINTER VEGGIES: the number of dozen eggs in the shares varies from month to month depending on egg production, weather etc. The shorter the days and the colder the weather, the less our chickens lay and the fewer eggs there are to give out. When days lengthen in March-April there are often lots of eggs.

PLEASE REMEMBER at times there are last-minute changes to the share items, usually based on changing weather during the harvest week.  They are for your use in shopping and meal planning.

Please join our Facebook page: "Garden of Eve Organic Farm CSA members", it's a great place to post a picture of something you don't recognize, trade recipes, and crow over your dinner creations!

A note on prices: The prices set for the items are based on what we sell these items for in the winter time, at our farmer's market stands. Yes, there are probably times where you can get the same item imported from Mexico, or Fla, or CA, at your local supermarket, for less. Our produce is both tastier (the cold brings out the sugars) as well as more environmentally friendly, and of course organic! You vote with your dollar and keep family farms alive in the NY Metro area, by being part of this CSA. In return, we provide you with value, flavor, health, and deliciousness over the course of the season.

SEASONAL EBB AND FLOW OF GREENS IN THE SHARE: The Dec Full Diet and Personal/Vegan share usually includes a lot of greens, Jan some greens (based on whether we have had a lot of hard freezes, snow etc), Feb a small amount of greens (just whatever we can grow in our unheated high tunnels) and March the fewest of the season (everything outside is pretty much dead, inside is used up). Good news: April things are growing again, more greens and also more in May!

DIRT ON YOUR VEGGIES: All the roots like potatoes, sweet potatoes etc have already been harvested, and are stored in our cooler through the winter. We couldn't dig them - the ground will be frozen solid! And if it's not, the cold wet ground would cause many of them to rot. We store them dirty, because the dirt on the outside helps keep them from drying out. We do wash them before giving them to you, but if you get some that are still dirty, it's because we know you may be storing them in the fridge and this will help extend their shelf life.  (photo is approximate – no winter squash this month)
