Hello Farm Share Members!

FARM NEWS: We’re bringing in our new garlic crop, as well as red, white and yellow onions – one of the best onion years ever! This week we have a treat, to hear from Farm Trainee Cosmas from Uganda, to tell us… The Secret behind the pasture raised chickens  at Garden of Eve

“My name is Cosmas Kulya and I came from Uganda to be an agriculture trainee at Garden of Eve Organic Farm. I have always had a great interactions with organically pasture raised chickens, and here at the farm I am responsible for the husbandry practices such as cleaning, feeding and watering, and collecting and packing eggs. In the past I worked in Israel in a turkey hatchery, as well. I also help in the fields with the vegetable production and marketing, since I arrived two months ago at Garden of Eve Organic Farm.

In the morning when I go out to the coops, the birds follow me as I attend to them!  I feel humbled, it makes me feel these birds misses me every minute that am absent. Absolutely chickens are the best animal to interact with. It makes for a fun day, even though I’m working hard. The high quality of the eggs here are a result of how the chickens are raised. The benefits of eating these eggs can't be denied.

It's healthier, superior in nutrients (they have 3 times more vitamin A and vitamin B, and 7 times more beta carotene) compared to eggs from conventionally raised chickens. More importantly, and safer as well, cause no antibiotics is given making it the highest quality eggs you can get.

Kindly walk in to our local farm or farmers' markets so that you can get a firsthand look at our poultry and feel the organic eggs, vegetables, fruits and breathe organic. I have also learned how to raise organic chickens using locally available materials for housing and making laying nests and therefore, it will be easy to adopt these practices in my home country of Uganda.”
