Walking days

I'm so glad the weather has warmed to help everyone go for (socially distant) walks! The birds and frogs at the farm are singing up a storm, and there's a calm that comes with that - they have no idea we're all busy isolating. I found the garlic growing in all it's springtime glory yesterday morning, with much less loss over winter than last year. Hurray!

Your first two deliveries will look a lot like winter - it takes time for the soil to warm and things to start growing! In fact, over the next six deliveries I'm not expecting to have anything from the fields. Instead, this time of year we rely on our greenhouse. While we have a heating system to keep it from freezing overnight, we turn it off January to late March. We start it up for our seedlings (like tomatoes and onions), but it doesn't turn on much this time of year. The power of the greenhouse is the large clear plastic roof that lets in the sunshine, and keeps it toasty and warm for the plants to grow.

This week we've got a couple heads of lettuce for each of you. They were actually planted in October! We harvested them in January and thought that was that, we turned off the heat and let everything freeze. However, the roots we left in the ground decided to re-grow come March and are now lovely heads to share with you all. I love learning by happy accident ;)

You'll notice there's a new swap page, and while designed to be more intuitive it is different! Here's a quick overview of how it works: https://harvie.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001667414-How-Swaps-and-Extras-Work  In a nutshell, it looks to me like you click + if you want more of an item, the little trash can if you want less, and the little arrows if you want a new item that's not currently in your share. At the bottom it will show you an option to add another item if you've still got value in your share, and it shows if you've purchased extras and what the charge is for. If you're on the payment plan, you'll owe a 25% deposit this week of $45 as well as half your share value for this week, but there's a full explanation here: https://harvie.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001663373-How-Does-the-Payment-Plan-Work-

If you have any questions don't be shy to reach out, I'm not going anywhere! heather@fiddlehead-farm.ca or (613) 970-5034 and I can help you :)

Thank you for letting us provide your isolated kitchens with some fresh goodies, I'm excited to see what we can grow you!
